Fascia
"The fascial system is a tough connective tissue that spreads throughout the body in a three dimensional web from head to foot without interruption. It has been estimated that if every structure of the body except the fascia were removed the body would retain its shape". A major job that the fascia does for our body is to keep its normal shape and keep organs where they belong. Fascia provides resistance against mechanical stress and also allows for cells to stay in contact, communicate and work together. It covers all organs, muscles, bones, nerves, blood vessels and each cell that those components are made of. When there is a pressure, stress or inflammation due to trauma, poor posture, surgery etc. it can effect all of these body parts. Our fascial system is like a fiber optic cable carrying massive amounts of energy and information. Therefore restrictions in the fascia can cause pain, malfunction, unusual side effects and seemingly unrelated but simultaneous pain. Thus, treatment of the whole body with myofascial release is key.

Myofascial Release (MFR) is a highly specialized and gentle, hands-on technique used to treat patients with a variety of soft tissue problems. A skilled therapist, applies sustained pressure into areas of restriction. This allows the fascia to unravel and lengthen, taking pressure off the soft tissue. Releasing fascial restrictions can have profound effects in eliminating pain and restoring function. Release can occur on a physical, emotional level or both. Fascial restrictions are identified via postural and hands-on assessment.
Trauma, inflammatory responses, repetitive stress, poor posture and/or surgical procedures create restrictions in the fascia. Because fascia is like an interconnected web, other parts of the body may become stressed or pulled. Fascia cover all the organs of the body, every muscle and even the fiber within each muscle. When muscle fibers are injured, the fibers and the fascia which surrounds it become short and tight. This is similar to pulling threads of a sweater in one area and watching all of the other threads pull and organize along the lines of tension. This uneven stress can be transmitted through the fascia to other parts of the body, causing significant pain, dysfunction and a variety of other symptoms in areas you often wouldn't expect. Myofascial Release treats the misaligned body and by releases the uneven tightness in injured fascia. It can greatly reduce pain, increase range of motion, and increase immune system response and can even be helpful in healing non-physical trauma. Myofascial restrictions do not show up on traditional medical tests such as MRI's or X-rays. Thus, they often go undiagnosed, treated for the symptom of pain and not resolving the cause.
MFR can be safely performed with patients of all ages to treat patients with:

Myofascial release is a whole body approach that integrates conventional rehabilitation medicine with alternative and complementary approaches. Treating the whole person allows an individual to take an active role in the healing process. It is common in the world of traditional medicine/physical therapy that a person’s area of pain or dysfunction quickly becomes labeled as their diagnosis. It is often necessary to acknowledge symptoms and then look elsewhere for the root cause of the problem. Recognizing the connection between the mind body, allows us to treat the whole you. My approach encompasses helping you identify certain insights and belief systems which may be perpetuating physical ailments.
My mission is to facilitate your healing. I simultaneously treat myofascial, structural and energetic restrictions during each session. I offer services to anyone in need of wellness maintenance in addition to treatment for a specific condition.
